Smalls" are 12"x12" acrylic paintings on board, created without any constraints or preconceptions. They are products of the moment and possess a truly reactive and invigorating energy. These little paintings play with the viewer's expectations, sometimes even becoming a launching pad for something much bigger. 

The playful nature of these small paintings reminds me of the pure joy and thrill of the creative process. The viewer is invited to come closer, to reduce the physical and mental distance between the person and the painting. The work includes you, it speaks directly to you, personally.  There is a concentration of intricate detail which further invites closer inspection. The proximity required for viewing small artwork can make the experience feel personal and intense.

In a larger space, a grouping of Intense Smalls can provide a contrasting sense of scale, and an ever-changing focus, emphasizing their uniqueness and the intricacy of the work.
